energy assessors

arctic are fully qualified energy assessors to be able to inspect air conditioning systems in buildings and give advice on energy efficiency, savings and safety.

Air Conditioning Inspectors (energy assessors) will be required to inspect equipment and systems, which are currently installed and operating within Commercial, Corporate and Public Buildings, these systems will require inspection by an authorised energy assessor. This is required under EU directive for energy efficiency in buildings EPBD, this also includes boilers installed in these buildings.

RdSAP & SAP or SBEM, DSM assessment procedures will commence from 6 April 2008 for commercial property and new build dwellings.

Inspections required are as follows:
Air conditioning systems where the total system cooling capacity is greater than 12kWr (whether in dwellings or non-dwellings) will be inspected at intervals not exceeding 5 years.

The inspection will include an assessment of efficiency, a review of their sizing and advice on improvements or replacements and alternative solutions. All systems require first inspection by January 2011. These measures apply only to fixed air conditioning systems, they do not apply to portable equipment.

Air Conditioning Systems
Energy Assessment & Inspection

Air Conditioning Energy Assessors also known as Air Conditioning Inspectors will be required to carry out inspection of existing equipment and systems, these systems can only be inspected by a qualified energy assessor who has received specific training in this field.

The National Occupational Standards have now been announced for this sector of energy inspection. Please open this pdf to see what the actual standards are.

Existing air-conditioning maintenance and repair companies (like arctic) would be best placed for application for training as an energy assessor for air conditioning systems as their personnel would already benefit from background knowledge associated with air conditioning equipment.

Energy Assessors in this field will require training in the operation of the following equipment and associated controls :

snowflake Unitary packaged systems
snowflake Split packaged systems
snowflake Multi-split packaged systems
snowflake Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems
snowflake Centralised cooled air systems
snowflake Centralised cooled water systems
